Community rallies as man has 37th operation on brain
THE community is rallying around Ben Valery, an 18-year-old Gladstone man who has just undergone his 37th brain operation for treatment of hydrocephalus, which he has suffered since birth.
The condition, known as water on the brain, is the abnormal build-up of cerebrospinal fluid in the ventricles or cavities of the brain.
He is in Mater Hospital in Brisbane awaiting a decision on further treatment.
Sun Valley Supa IGA, where Ben works, is holding a cake stall on Saturday from 8am to help raise funds for him and his mother Kelleen Windsor-Madsen.
Raffle tickets will be sold for $1. Prizes include free massage, $30 fruit tray, $50 Drakes gift card and a $25 Lenard's voucher.
