Community notes: What's on in Gladstone

HERE'S a rundown of what's coming up in the Gladstone community in June and July.

Baby Boomer singles meet

THE next Baby Boomer Singles night will be held on Friday at Rydges cocktail bar.

From 5-5.30pm there will be free fingerfood platters and live music from 6pm. Dress is smart casual. Look for the BBS sign.

Movie night

YARALLA Football Club is holding a movie fundraiser after its day of competition on Saturday. Games are at 1pm, 3pm and 5pm.

The children's Disney film Wreck It Ralph will be shown at the field, with gates open from 5pm and the movie beginning from 6.30pm.

Blue Care garage sale

BLUE Care Auxiliary will hold its next garage sale at 2 Margaret St on Friday and Saturday starting at 7am both days.

Closing time on the Friday is 3pm and on Saturday at noon. For safety reasons no dogs allowed.

Donations of good saleable items may be left at the centre at any time while arrangements can be made for the pick up of larger items by phoning the centre on 4979 4499 and leaving a message.

Show ball

THE Mt Larcom and District Show Ball will be held at the Mt Larcom Community Hall on Saturday from 7.30pm.

Music by Peter Murphy's Two Can Band. Judging will be held for the Queen of the Ball (ladies over 21 years of age) and Princess of the Ball (girls 16-21 years of age) and Junior Princess of the Ball (girls under 16 years of age).

The ball will be licensed, soft drinks available, supper served, raffle, lucky door and lucky spot.

Fashion fun

GLADSTONE Festivals and Events invites Gladstone boutiques to be involved in the 2015 Gladstone Region Wedding and Special Events Expo fashion parade on Sunday from 10am-2pm at the Gladstone Events Centre (Yaralla).

Businesses will be offered 5-10 minute blocks throughout the event for their individual fashion parade where they can display outfits.

Pensioners league

AUSTRALIAN Pensioners and Superannuants' League Gladstone Branch will hold its monthly meeting on June 15 at 10.30am at Port Curtis Place, 83 Oaka Lane.

All pensioners and superannuants are all welcome to join. If you need the bus phone the centre on 4972 4465.

The league also holds hoy every Monday at 1pm. Afternoon tea is available at hoy.

New Life Ministries

A CATHOLIC charismatic renewal program will be held on June 15 at the Star of the Sea Parish Hall, Herbert St, starting at 7pm.

Guest speaker will be Anglican Gladstone parish minister Father Daniel Paulraj. Supper will be provided. No cost.

Over 60s

ST SAVIOUR'S in Auckland St, Gladstone, 60s Club will next meet on June 18 from 6.30pm for dinner and dessert with guest speakers from the Calliope Historical Society, at a cost of $10.

There are lucky door prizes, competitions. Anyone over 60 is welcome.

Inspiring women

THE Gladstone Women's Health Centre's 2015 Inspiring Women's Award Event will be held from 8am on June 26 at Yaralla Sports Club.

The breakfast event will recognise and celebrate women from within the Gladstone community who support, inspire and advocate for women.

Those attending will enjoy breakfast celebrating with the women whose inspiring stories will be taking centre stage.

The winners will be announced by Minister Shannon Fentiman, Mayor Gail Sellers and Liz Cunningham.

Tickets are now available at the Women's Health Centre for $45 each.

QCWA art comp open to all

THE Port Curtis division of the QCWA has the finals day for the art competition on July 3.

The finals will be judged at the Calliope RSL Hall. The competition is open to any females and local people are encouraged to enter.

Entries for the art competition close on June 17.

RSPCA cent sale

THE Friends of RSPCA's next Cent Sale, which will be held at the Senior Citizens Centre, is on July 4.

There will be over 400 prizes up for the taking and you will be assured of an entertaining afternoon and also a very good possibility of going home with a prize.

The drawing of the multi-drawer raffle will be held with 15 outstanding prizes to be won, including a painting Family Day Out donated by Gladstone artist Jean Kane.

Doors will open at 11am and the sale will kick-off at 1pm.

There will also be general raffles and a cake walk throughout the afternoon, as well as afternoon tea served.

All proceeds from this event will go towards feeding, veterinary expenses and housing of the foster cats and dogs that are in the group's care.
