Boyne Valley community is cut off from the rest of us

IF SHE'S lucky, Skyann Peters can get three bars of mobile phone reception.

But only in one spot near the swing set behind her home.

The mum-of-three lives on a property between Ubobo and Nagoorin in the Boyne Valley.

It's about an hour-and-a-half drive from Gladstone. Not very far at all.

But somehow this tiny community still has almost no mobile reception.

There is something nice about driving into the Valley and being off the grid.

But that's when you can get in and out.

Not when you're completely cut off, without electricity, and when your landline is dead.

That's just plain scary.

Snapper Christopher Chan and I drove out to the Valley on Saturday.

We met with many locals who feel it's about time they got re connected.

A solution needs to be found, whatever it may be.

Maybe it's Telstra's responsibility, maybe it's up to the government and NBN Co. It just needs to get sorted. And soon.
