Coal vessel anchors near Gladstone

A COAL vessel has come aground 20 kilometres off the coast of Gladstone Harbour.

It's believed the Samatan vessel anchored just before 7pm last night, while it was travelling en route from Newcastle to China.

A Maritime Safety Queensland Spokesperson said the vessel anchored in the port area, came aground and was refloated by tug boats.

The spokesperson said there was no damage to the ship or to the environment.

The vessel remains in the area.

More to come.
