Coal terminal behind schedule

CONSTRUCTION of Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal has been delayed.

"The project has been impacted by conditions in the construction market, timing of various approvals and some construction-related matters that have resulted in a delay to the original schedule," a spokesperson said.

"The forecast construction costs remain within WICET's financing envelope.

"The project is now approximately 35% complete and WICET will continue to monitor construction progress and review the schedule to reduce the potential for associated cost increases."

Stage 1 of WICET, once completed, will have an export capacity of 27 million tonnes per year.
