Taylor steps aside for new coal mine chief inspector
COAL mines in Queensland have a new chief inspector, as Gavin Taylor steps down from the role.
Andrew Clough is his successor, having worked his way from the coal mines of Illawarra in New South Wales, through the Department of Mines and most recently into a management role at BHP Billiton's Broadmeadow and North Goonyella mines.
Mr Taylor is highly respected in the industry and internationally - the outgoing inspector even called to help New Zealand authorities in the aftermath of its Pike River Mine disaster.
His work beyond Queensland shores helped New Zealand develop a stronger and safer mining industry.
The chief inspector of coalmines is the over-arching role ensuring mines follow standards set by the state.
Mines Minister Andrew Cripps made the announcement on Thursday.
