Coach names new-look 23-man Gladstone Raiders squad

ONLY 10 players from last year's undefeated Gladstone Raiders season remain in the preliminary 23-man rugby league squad to play the Rockhampton Rustlers next month.

Coach Andrew Hamilton named the squad on Sunday, saying it was a difficult selection process, with more than half the squad fresh faces for the match on April 17.

Three of the squad will be dropped by game day, leaving room for injuries or for players to be selected for the Capras match to be played after the Raiders and Rustlers battle.

"It was difficult to come up with the 23 players as there are a lot of talented players," Hamilton said.

"Some were perhaps a bit unlucky not to be included in this original group of players."

Hamilton is keen to keep watching other players in the Gladstone competition and keep an open mind for selection after the April 17 match.

The Raiders will also play in the 47th Battalion Carnival to be held on May 10 and 11.

The Capras will possibly steal a few players from the Raiders squad, with a number of the players already in the Intrust Super Cup team.
