FOR Paul Smith, the role of president for the Gladstone Brothers Rugby League Club has been a greatly rewarding experience.

After 35 years in the top job, Mr Smith will be stepping down to the position of vice president to make room for successor, David Ahearn.

"The best part about being president for the club for so many years has definitely been all the great people I've met," said Mr Smith.

"We've had our fair share of wins and a few premierships and I've enjoyed every moment."

Mr Smith acknowledged the ongoing support he has received from his family during his reign as president.

Luckily for those involved in Gladstone League, the 85-year-old is as passionate about the game as ever.
