CLOSING DOWN: Stalwart tailor to sell thousands of suits

KEV Khazen's menswear store has been a stalwart of Dalby for nearly 60 years.

His work has been the feature of thousands of weddings, debutante balls, races and funerals over the decades.

Now the much-loved 83 year old is selling his suits and shutting up shop as he enters retirement.

Mr Khazen, who came to Australia from Lebanon in 1950, made all the suits he sold to men in the area.

After marrying his wife Margie in 1964, the pair ran the store virtually non-stop over five decades.

Rose Claridge said her father's craftsmanship and character was legendary across the Darling Downs.

"He's helped thousands and thousands of people over the years," she said.

"He's a remarkable businessman because he came over to a country where he didn't know English.

"Dad was running his own brand before brands even happened.

"He's one of life's true gentlemen."

Mr Khazen's retirement, forced on him because of ill health, will trigger a sale of thousands of suits in his Cunningham St store.

"He needs to have this chapter closed, so he can focus on getting well," Mrs Claridge said.

The sale starts on Monday.
