Clinton misses win

THE highly anticipated clash between Cap League tournament leaders Cap Coast and the in-form Clinton at Clinton Park saw the home side hold the table-toppers to a draw.

Fourth placed Clinton has found form of late after struggling to find wins earlier in the season.

The Grubs dominated patches of play, keeping Cap Coast in defence mode.

Clinton should have been one ahead at half time but Ryan Bellert missed a “tap-in” opportunity from in front.

The home side still couldn’t convert the strong runs into points in the second when a goal off the boot of Tyler Stross was disallowed with approximately 15 minutes to go.

“No one seemed to know why it wasn’t a goal,” Clinton coach Derek Horton said.

While Clinton only claimed one point for the draw, the match proved the Grubs could be strong contenders for back-to-back Cap League premierships.

“We probably should have won,” Horton said.

“The first 20-25 minutes we looked really good.

“But then we started to make some bad choices.

“We were going for the killer pass instead of the (simple one).”

In the other games, the lowly placed Southside shocked Frenchville (third) with a 2-nil win.

Southside scored two goals in as many halves with both goals coming off set plays from corner kicks.

Parkana defeated Berserker and Nerimbera beat the Bluebirds.

Yaralla are expected to play a catch-up game against Frenchville in Rockhampton tonight.
