Clinton football side faces tough challenge at Rockhampton

A SEVERELY depleted Clinton faces a tough challenge against the Capricorn Coast on Saturday night.

The side is coming off a convincing win in the first round of the FFA Cup.

The only Gladstone side left in the competition, Clinton will fly the flag in what coach Les Jones expects to be a tough battle.

Travelling north to play the match, Clinton will be without a huge part of its squad - injuries, a funeral and early season issues having an impact.

Jones was wary of the opponents.

"They must be strong, they beat Frenchville who won last year's CQ Premier League last week 6-5," he said.

The door is now open to progress in the competition too, with CQFC Energy not a block in the road toward other NPL sides.

"I would think this is the tougher side of the draw, you could go straight to Mackay Magpies then to NPL teams," Jones said.
