Clinton ease past Southside United

SOCCER: Clinton FC have maintained their undefeated start to the CQ Premier League season with a 4-0 win over Southside United at the weekend.

Sammy Roberts found the back of the net after seven minutes.

In a fiery encounter that saw eight yellow cards and a red card produced, it was the 30th minute sending off of Southside's Matthew Black which turned the tide.

To Southside's credit, they dug in and went to half-time only trailing 1-0.

Clinton came out the better side in the second half and were rewarded with the first of Liam Stephen's goals in the 60th minute to double its advantage.

Liam Jones added Clinton's third goal three minutes later before teenage striker Stephen netted his second in the 74th minute.

The win moves Clinton four points clear at the top of the CQPL ladder, ahead of Cap Coast.

Clinton play the Gladstone derby against Central this Saturday at Sun Valley Oval.

Clinton FC 4 (Sam Roberts 7', Liam Stephen 60', Liam Jones 63', Liam Stephen 74') defeated Southside United 0. Half-time: 1-0 Clinton. Red Card: Matthew Black (Southside).
