The streets are alive with the sound of mowers

TUESDAY'S fine weather was welcomed by the unmistakable sounds of weed eaters and mowers across residential Toowoomba.

The almost 250mm of rain that had fallen on most of the Garden City over the past week or so had done wonders for the city's lawns and gardens.

However, the hot and humid conditions that followed provided the perfect recipe to promote plant growth.

And the good news is, there should be plenty of fine weather over the next few days if you missed out getting stuck into your lawn and garden yesterday.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the Darling Downs should welcome in the New Year with basically fine weather with the occasional storm, though any rainfall should be scattered and in relatively short supply.

Today, Toowoomba's temperatures should range from an overnight minimum of about 18 degrees to a maximum of 31 degrees with a possible thunderstorm in the afternoon or evening though with just a 50% chance of rain of between one and 5mm.

Temperatures across the Darling Downs and Granite Belt should range from about 19 to the low to mid-30s.

New Year's Day should welcome a little more cloud cover although with just a 30% chance of a shower in the late afternoon or early evening.

Temperatures in Toowoomba should range from 19 to 28 and across the Downs and Granite Belt temps could rise to the low or mid 30s.

Friday's temps should range between 19 and 27 in Toowoomba with an 80% chance of a light shower of between one to 5mm.

Similar conditions should prevail for the rest of the week leading into Sunday and early next week.
