CLARE Geraghty finished the Botanic to Bridge 8km event in 28 seconds 19 minutes, earning her first placing in the open women's category and third overall to cross the finish line.

Ms Geraghty has won the Botanic to Bridge in her category for the past three years.

The part-time cross-country and athletics coach said she has been running competitively for nine years.

"As a kid I was always active. For about 10 years I did Irish dancing then I moved on to running," she said.

"I love the feeling you get from running, your mind is focused but your body is free; it's why I love running so much.

"I hope to represent Australia in the 2018 Commonwealth Games. That would be an amazing achievement.

Ms Geraghty trains everyday and runs up to 100 km every week.

"My ultimate goal in life is to wear the green and gold colours while I represent Australia doing what I love," she said.
