Gladstone's superfood bar all the buzz with fit fanatics

CHRIS Beasley is a fitness fanatic - the sort of bloke who goes to the gym on a regular basis and who eats healthy food.

The need to source that healthy food led him to consider opening a health-food shop, serving smoothies and other healthy options.

"It had been in my brain for a couple of years," he said. "I would go home after the gym and make smoothies for myself.

"I wanted somewhere where I could get healthy and nutritious smoothies after the gym."

After considerable research, he opened Buzz Superfood Bar on Toolooa St late in February and the healthy food bar has exceeded his expectations.

"It's going really well. You don't really know what to expect, but I am happy with the result.

"I knew there was a gap in the market so I was always hopeful."

During the research he came across the Thank You Group, which, among other things, markets bottled water. But this is bottled water with a difference.

The purchase of a 600ml bottle of water, costing $2.50, provides enough clean drinking water for one person for a month in a developing country.

So far, Buzz has sold enough bottles of water to provide clean drinking water for a full year for 16 people.

"We have helped projects in India, Cambodia, Myanma, Haiti and Uganda so far. It's great that we have an opportunity to give back," he said.

Purchasers of Thank You water can track which nation will benefit by going to the ThankYou Group website and typing in the code on the back of each bottle.

"There are 65 million people in the world who don't have access to potable water. Thank You is helping right that and trying to change people's lives," Mr Beasley said.
