THE view from the highest point in Sydney's CBD was interrupted by the arrival of a giant dragon yesterday as the city prepared for its annual Chinese New Year celebrations.
Perched at the top of the iconic Westfield (Centrepoint tower) the bright orange visitor posed for pictures on the observation deck before being taken on a tour of the Harbour Bridge.
The Chinese New Year Festival runs from January 24 to February 9.
The official launch party for the Year of the Horse kicks off at Belmore Park this Friday night.
Festival goers will be treated to lion dancing, food markets, cooking stalls and a fireworks display which organisers hope will "scare off any misfortunes from the previous year".
Popular events during festival include the arts exhibition at the Queen Victoria Building and the glitzy dragon ball at the Star Casino on February 8.
Lunar feasts are served up at restaurants throughout the city.
