Train tracks bent following bridge strike

TRAINS have been suspended in both directions on the Sunshine Coast line between Nambour and Yandina after a rail bridge was badly damaged this morning.

A cherry picked collided the the bridge at Price St, Nambour about 7.15am.

"The rail bridge has been badly damaged and our engineers are on site assessing the safety of the bridge and tracks before trains can resume," a Queensland Rail spokesman said.

"We are arranging buses to transport our long distance and City network customers until the bridge can be reopened.

"Safety is our top priority and we cannot stress enough to motorists to always be aware of their heights and loads and to stay safe near the rail network."

A cherry picker collided with the bridge about 7.15am.
