Chelsea’s a big sports hit

CHELSEA Fanning has been playing softball since she was six and has represented Queensland in the sport.

In contrast the 15-year-old is in her third year of volleyball and has also represented Queensland in that sport.

She says it is because the two sports work hand in hand.

"Serving and hitting is like throwing in softball," she said.

She said she started playing softball because her mum Tanya was involved in the sport.

She started playing volleyball at Gladstone State High School where they train four times a week.

Now she hopes that softball and volleyball could open a pathway to a college in America.

"I'm going to see how I go at both," she said.

"I'll have to make a decision when I'm in grade 12 but I'll try and get one of the colleges that offer softball and volleyball."

She has the Queensland Trials for Under 17s next weekend for volleyball and State Titles for softball Under 17s in September.
