Charles Ware named as new chairman of hospital service

THE Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service board has a new chairman.

Charles Ware has taken over as chairman after former chairman Professor Bob Miles stepped down.

Although Prof Miles said he regretted his decision to stand down, he said he would still be an active member of the seven-person board.

Mr Ware said he was proud to take on the leadership role of the board.

"The board has already been working closely with the management team of Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service, and with the new CQ Medicare Local Board," Mr Ware said.

Since its establishment in July, the board has been responsible for developing localised strategies for improving health services across Central Queensland.

Mr Ware said the board's primary focus would remain on improving patient care.

The board will also welcome new members Dr David Austin (deputy chairman) and Dr David Shaker, which will add to the list of seven members, including Gladstone representative Kurt Heidecker.
