CCTV catches charity shop thieves in the act

CHARITY shop boss Debbie Clayton burst into tears when she saw the damage two thieves had done at her Maroochydore warehouse.

Mrs Clayton, who is a founder of the Beautiful You Program charity, rushed to the Sugar Rd warehouse on Monday after being alerted by husband Vince of the break-in.

CCTV from a neighbouring business showed two people riding pushbikes arrive shortly before 5am Sunday.

"They were going through the skip bins and then they lifted the rollers off the sliding door and got in," Mrs Clayton said.

She said four vintage cameras and a lot of silverware had been stolen.

Antique plates had also been smashed.

"Vince rang me and said 'Debbie, the warehouse has been broken into and I just said 'not again'."

"I just went straight down and I actually burst into tears."

She said the charity's 30 or so volunteers took the news hard.

"The effect is that the women that put in hours and hours get upset that they can be putting in all of these hours voluntarily and then someone can walk in and do what they've done.

"I don't think it is fair."

She said she thought it was the first time the warehouse had been targeted but she said the charity's shop in Norval Ct had been stolen from before.

Police scientific officers have investigated the scene.
