Charity bike ride a huge success, likely to continue

IT'S expected the weekend's successful charity bike ride raised almost $2000 and restored confidence in continuing the annual Daly's Charity Bike Run.

This year's event raised money for the 19 year old who was recently diagnosed with leukaemia.

There was 86 bikes involved in this year's ride which took them out to Bajool, and a novel trip up Goondoon St, roaring through the CBD.

Stopping at every pub on the way for a raffle, Daly's Gym owner Mick Daly said it was a successful event.

They returned to the clubhouse to have a barbecue and drinks where Brent Holland's family, friends and girlfriend joined in the fundraiser.

Mr Daly said prior to the event he was not certain if it would continue due to safety concerns on the ride and pressure from organising the event.

"Honestly we did get a little bit sick of the whinging.

"But then we realised this weekend that while you might have two or three people complain, you'll also get 80 people there who say how great it is and who are already keen to do it again," Mr Daly said.

This year ASN was the major sponsor, donating $2000 to be spent on prizes.

Mr Daly still needs to finish counting the money donated, but he expects it would be between $1700 and $2000.
