Woman allegedly beaten, bitten in adult shop bashing

AN IPSWICH newsagent has a broken nose, two black eyes and a bite wound on her arm after allegedly being attacked by a woman in a Brisbane St adult store.

Teresa Pearce, the owner of Ipswich City News, said she followed the woman to the nearby adult store after she allegedly stole from her newsagency.

Mrs Pearce, 60, has operated the newsagency for seven years, said the woman told her she wasn't going to pay for items she took from the store about 6pm Friday.

With the help of a nearby café owner, Mrs Pearce pursued the alleged robber.

She found the woman in an adult store down the street and cornered her in the front of the store.

"She wanted to get out of the door but I didn't let go of the door so she attacked me with her teeth and then she started beating the crap out of me, kicking me. Once she got me down on the ground it was easy," Mrs Pearce said.

"She picked the wrong person because I still wouldn't let go of the door."

The alleged offender was stopped outside the business by two men until police arrived while Mrs Pearce was taken to Ipswich Hospital for treatment.

CCTV footage from the adult store was handed over to police.

A 33-year-old Brassall woman appeared in Ipswich Magistrates Court on Saturday charged with one count each of stealing and serious assault.

She was remanded in custody with her next appearance for mention scheduled for July 13 in Ipswich Magistrates Court.
