'Obsessed' baker charged with stabbing mum, seeks bail

A MAN who travelled from South Australia to Mackay  where he allegedly stabbed a young mum and her partner is applying for bail.

Jason Wayne Greatbatch, 36, faces two charges of attempted murder after 21-year-old mother-of-one Teagan Moore was allegedly stabbed in the stomach at her home in Kuttabul in December last year.

Ms Moore's partner also suffered injuries during the alleged attack.

Crown prosecutor Peter O'Connor has just told the Brisbane Supreme Court that Mr Greatbatch's "obsession" with Ms Moore, who once worked in the defendant's bakery, was so great that the defendant would take whatever steps were necessary to see her again.

Justice John Bond is considering if Mr Greatbatch should be released to reside with his parents in Ceduna in South Australia.

Defence barrister Peter Davis told the Justice Bond that Mr Greatbatch would wear a "GPS tracker" to ensure he does not return to Queensland.

Justice Bond held over the bail application after it emerged the defence could not guarantee the GPS device could not be removed by Mr Greatbatch.

Mr Davis told the court the device would be purchased from a private source and he would have more information about the technology by 12pm today.

Mr Davis argued that his client should be bailed because there was a chance he would spend more time in jail pre-trial than any potential  sentence might warrant.

He has already been in prison for nine months.

Mr Greatbatch's parents have offered a $300,000 surety.

The defendant is also charged with stalking and assault.
