Chanel College claim Capricornia defeating North Rockhampton

RUGBY LEAGUE: Chanel College played out a hard fought 22-12 last-minute victory over North Rockhampton High last Wednesday night's schoolboys GIO Trophy.

The match score line changed several times with both teams playing an exciting display of attack and rugged defence at Marley Brown oval.

North Rockhampton High opened up the score in the first five minutes with a converted try.

Chanel College forward Cameron Fitzsimmons playing out wide from 15 metres out burst to the try line to get his team on the scoreboard but no conversion.

The scoreline changed several times with both sides driving hard to win.

At half-time Chanel College coach Chris Andersen told the team while he was happy with the defence, they still areas to work on in attack.

With just minutes to go in the game and holding onto a precious 16-12 lead, Channel's half-back's combined for five eighth Tallis Stanhope to score.

With a steady conversion from half back Lyncoln Rebel, it gave Channel College the buffer to be Capricornia Champions.

Andersen praised the players at the end of the game of the effort the team put in to win.

The Chanel College team will head to Townsville at the end of July to play the winner of the North Queensland trial matches.

The GIO Trophy is open to any Queensland Secondary School and provides an opportunity to compete in a Queensland-wide competition.
