Chance for juniors to shine and win award

JUNIOR athletes have the chance to enter the Yaralla Junior Sports Star competition with nominations now open.

With an abundance of talented juniors taking to the many various sporting fields over the week and weekend; the opportunity is there for a youngster to be recognised for the next 20 weeks.

Cooper McKenzie Marketing account manager Sarah Mitchell-Anyon said winners, selected from a panel at the Yaralla Club, will be announced as from April 9 and each week for 20 weeks thereafter.

"We want as many entries as possible and there has been a lot of interest in the competition," Mitchell-Anyon said.

"The winner will receive $500 and will have a write-up about him or her in the Observer."

There are a lot of athletes in the running such as Mia Bell in Nippers, Toby Dunphy in BMX, Peyton Craig in swimming and Jake Gehrmann with his feats in softball and league.

Athletes will have to be aged up to 16 years and reside within the Gladstone region.

The competition is in its eighth year and there have been a total of 210 winners.
