Central racks up first win for season in premier league

CENTRAL Football Club's Premier League side scored its first win for the season on Saturday night, slotting four goals to gain the three points.

Scoring one of those goals was Hayden Turner, who added to the scoreboard not as a striker but a defender.

"I was playing left back," he said. "It was an overlapping run. We were already ahead."

Turner would like to see more performances from his side like the one to down Berserker.

He said his team was as good as any other but that was not reflected in results because of their occasional loss of intensity.

"I think we need to play more 90-minute games," he said. "We go to sleep a bit."

Chasing Gladstone's other CQ Premier League side Clinton, Turner wants to one day hold the trophy.

He's not running off anywhere too soon, but he's not locked in the area forever.

"It depends on where work takes me," he said. "I am a carpenter. There is always plenty of time for footy - training twice a week and games on the weekend.

"This year is going to be pretty tough. Everyone else has improved with the CQFC Energy being gone."

Results:

  • Central Premier 4 d Berserker 1
  • Central Reserves 1 drew Berserker 1
  • FFA Cup: Mackay Magpies 7 d Clinton 0
