Greg Cavill named as man to start this year's yacht race

THE Queensland Cruising Yacht Club has revealed the official starter for the QantasLink Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race.

Hendra businessman and yachtsman Greg Cavill will start the race, which will be held for the 66th time on Good Friday from 11am, website reported on Sunday.

Mr Cavill was behind the Breakfast Creek Hotel and supported the Queensland Cruising Yacht Club in its early days.

Mr Cavill, who is the oldest surviving Commodore of Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, competed in the race between 1950 to 1998 sailing yachts.
