Convention centre caterer to face performance reviews

FOOD at the new Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre will be like a rolling episode of MasterChef with the Gladstone Regional Council imposing performance assessments on the caterer.

Reef City Catering, based in Zilzie, is now in discussions with the council.

They were the only caterer to apply for the tender, but recently provided a sub-par feast at the George Negus breakfast at the Marina Marquee, serving cold food and instant coffee.

"They're working under duress down there, because they have to bring in everything in that is pre-cooked," Mayor Gail Sellers said.

"There's no kitchen down there, working out of a marquee is always difficult."

Councillors in the general meeting on Tuesday supported a motion to insert a performance clause into the catering agreement.

"When we get to the new entertainment centre, which has first class facilities, we'll be expecting an absolutely rise in the standard of the meals," Cr Sellers said.
