Catamaran collides with drifting vessel off Great Keppel
THE Yeppoon Coast Guard was called after reports of a collision between a moored vessel and a drifting, unmanned vessel off Svendsens Beach, Great Keppel Island on Saturday night.
The owner of the moored vessel, a 12m sailing catamaran, reported the collision had caused some minor damage and that he had secured the drifting vessel.
The owner of the drifting vessel, a 4.8m powerboat, had been on the beach at the time of the incident and his boat had drifted about 40m. Insufficient anchor rope had been deployed and the rising tide, which reached 4.9m at 9.46pm, lifted the anchor from the bottom.
Boat owners are reminded to check tide times and heights when anchoring, particularly if unattended.
