GEELONG star Steve Johnson has been handed a one-match ban for head-butting Fremantle's Ryan Crowley in the defeat at Paterson Stadium on Saturday night.

Because of his poor record and carry-over demerit points, the Cats midfielder (pictured) is unable to reduce the sentence with an early plea and will miss Friday's clash with North Melbourne at Skilled Stadium.

Fremantle ruckman Zac Clarke can accept a reprimand for his strike on Johnson, while Melbourne's Chris Dawes has been offered a one-week ban for striking Richmond's Alex Rance.

The Sydney Swans were given good news from the Match Review Panel, with two of their stars having their cases dismissed.

The MRP ruled that Daniel Hannebery's bump on Michael Hurley was avoidable and incidental, while the panel also ruled Nick Malceski's contact with umpire Troy Pannell.
