Car show raises funds for toddler with big battle ahead
HUDSON Chirio was not even born when he had the stroke that has caused seizures throughout the toddler's life.
In the past two weeks, Toni and Janelle Chirio have gone through the most anxious time any parent could as he underwent rare brain surgery.
Doctors at the Lady Cilento Hospital had exhausted all options to reduce the seizures and their final hope was a left hemispherectomy - removing half his brain.
The family is expected to stay in Brisbane between six weeks and six months.
But the Gladstone Car Show members have made matters a little easier, by raising almost $7000 for the family.
Janelle said the Gladstone Car Show's fundraising efforts had made a vital difference in Hudson's recovery.
"He's woken up paralysed and he can't sit up, and he's too heavy for a pram now.
"To have the wheelchair will be amazing and to get him to take steps again with his walker will be even better," she said.
This Saturday the group is gathering for its last fundraiser for the toddler with a "dress up in the era of your car" event.
There will be raffles and trophies to be won too.
Car show member Roxy Ramm thanked the Gladstone community for their support in their six previous fundraisers.
The car show will be in the Valley car park at the bottom end of Goondoon St from 5pm, with raffles drawn at 7pm.
