Plenty of inspiration if you need to lose kilos
LAST week when I was volunteering at the RSPCA walking the dogs, I walked past their animal industrial scales and I thought, why not?
I jumped on and was a little delighted to note the numbers. The read-out said I weighed 85kg, down from 95 earlier in the year, and to say I was happy was an understatement.
My daughter has said to me a few times that perhaps I needed to lose a few pounds.
And when your daughter says something while rolling her eyes, you know she's being serious.
I took this message as motivation to do something about it.
I've been watching what I eat, I've been exercising more and have lost the kilos just in time for summer.
I can't say it's been easy as each day has its stresses, but all in all in the 35 degree heat it has gone well enough.
Ten-kilometre bike rides from one side of town to the top of Auckland Hill is fun, plus the walks up and down those steps is an adventure in itself.
I've walked Mt Larcom a few times as well, and walking with the pets makes you get fit very quickly.
I know there are many people in the same boat as me who have wanted to lose a few kilos and are doing plenty to tackle it, so to them I say well done.
And that goes for people like Martin who we spoke to last week.
This bloke was harassed at East Shores after working out in the area and took to social media to let the public know.
I congratulate you Martin for speaking out, and to all the others who are doing the same each and every day.
Keep it up. Don't let the words of a couple of tools stop you and your goals.
There are plenty of people around town pushing each other along on their journey in weight loss and general fitness, so if you get a chance find them, get inspiration from them and keep up the great fight.
May I also say that doing it all here in Gladstone would have to be one of the best places anywhere to tackle it?
The marina, the sunshine, the people ... all make it so enjoyable.
