Car without rego puts man in court

A TANNUM Sands man appeared in the Gladstone Magistrates Court yesterday on charges of driving an unregistered, uninsured vehicle and failure to leave licensed premises.

Dean Joseph Drennan, who represented himself, pleaded guilty to the charges. Prosecutor Senior Constable Brad Reynolds said the police had stopped Drennan at 3.15pm on April 30 on Hanson Road in an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.

The incident of failure to leave licensed premises had occurred at 11.45pm on May 21.

Drennan said he didn’t agree with the prosecution’s version of events, but would plead guilty to get it over and done with.

Magistrate Damian Carroll fined Drennan $100 in default one day’s jail for the unregistered car, $250 (or three days) for being uninsured, and $175 (or two days) for failure to leave licensed premises.

“Do you understand the significance of driving an unregistered, uninsured car?” Mr Carroll asked.
