Captain's call: Battle of midfield
IT ALL COMES down to this.
The Wesley Hall Cup is up for grabs for either Clinton or Frenchville in the Football Central Queensland Premier League grand final that most pundits expected in Yeppoon tonight.
Both teams have experienced a draw and a win although Clinton's 3-0 result in round 18 was courtesy of Frenchville not playing in order to rest up for the major semi-final the following week.
It turned out a perfect ploy for the Rockhampton-based club because Frenchville qualified for the grand final with a 2-0 win against Clinton two weeks ago.
It is too hard to predict a winner, but obviously Clinton captain Chris Hill explains why his team can get the job done.
"We have a full-strength side and we need to take our chances,” Hill said.
The team added a 'fun' factor at training during the week and Hill added it was designed to release the pressure on the players.
"We just did little skills like cross-bar challenges and to make it a fun environment,” he said.
Hill stressed the strong Clinton defence need to hold firm against Clinton's Michael Cay who has kicked 34 games in 16 games and Timothy Barker.
"Our back four of Jay Wernerson, Jakob Holmwood, Shannon Evans and Nick Ellacott have been good for us and need to be good again in the grand final,” Hill said.
Strikers Mitch Innocend and Sam Roberts have kicked 27 goals between them while Hill said there are two others that will ask questions to the Frenchville defence.
"Up forward we will be looking for Ethan Munster and Dominic Barra as well and we have the speed to expose Frenchville,” Hill said.
