Campsites open up on idyllic Keswick Island
IF SITTING under the stars on a picturesque island sounds like paradise...it is, and it's closer than you think.
Just 32km from Mackay is the idyllic island of Keswick and it has just opened up new campsites.
"It's a great way to discover the natural treasures of Keswick Island," CEO of Keswick Developments, Eytan Udovich said.
Nestled among trees and close to the calm waters of Basil Bay, its the perfect way to get back to nature.
"You can explore during the day and at night you can sit around the fire and watch the spectacular sunsets. You are not interrupted by lights from ...any town so it's pitch black and then you look up and there is a beautiful starry sky," Mr Udovich said.
The non-powered sites range in sizes from 5m x 5m or to larger sites of 6m x 10m with campground facilities and also facilities at nearby Basil Bay Beach.
Visitors can bring their own camping gear or hire from the island.
"It's great for couples, groups or families and it's a new feature on the island that hasn't been made available to anybody before," Mr Udovich said.
With costs from $20/night per site, it makes this unique adventure possible for everyone.
"People don't realise, that they can experience a back-to-nature experience on Keswick Island" he said.
For those who like more luxury, Keswick Island also has fully self-contained accommodation and there are other private houses available.
