Golfing trio compete in Junior Jug

THREE Tannum Sands teenagers are well on their way to emulating another famous Queenslander, Karrie Webb.

Taylor McManus, 17, Lillie McKelvie, 15, and Hannah Edmonston, 14, are all competing in the Junior Jug Tournament at Mossman over the next week. All three girls are members of the Calliope Golf Club. “We have an excellent juniors program at Calliope,” team manager Val Watson said.

“It is an opportunity for the girls to be identified as an up-and-coming player and to expand their career,” Val said.

The tournament is held over three days with the girls playing 36 holes each. This is the first Junior Jug Tournament for Lillie, who turns 15 this Tuesday.

“I’ve been playing golf for seven years and got into the sport through dad. I love it and hope to go pretty good this week,” said Lillie, who has a handicap of 12.

Taylor is an old hand and is competing in her third Junior Jug Tournament.

“I’ve been playing for almost 10 years and I got into the sport after having a hit with mum and dad in Innisfail and liked it so much I asked for lessons. I hope to play to the best of my ability this week,” Taylor said.

Hannah is also playing in her first Junior Jug Tournament.

“I started playing with my cousin Taylor about seven years ago and I love it,” Hannah said.

All three girls hope to turn pro in the future and make a career out of the game.
