Taxi driver fired for incident with female passenger

A TOOWOOMBA taxi driver has been sacked after a late night incident with a female customer.

The woman, who The Chronicle has chosen not to name, is now warning other women to take precautions about using taxis alone at night.

In a letter sighted by The Chronicle, Black and White Cabs confirmed that a driver had been dismissed and the incident reported to the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

The company made the decision to sack the driver after viewing camera footage.

The letter stated the footage "approximately corroborates" the woman's version of events.

According to the woman, she hailed the taxi in the Toowoomba CBD in the early hours of Sunday morning and the ride started out as normal, with the driver asking about her night.

The journey started to take a sinister turn when the man asked if she was single and made comments about her appearance.

The woman claims the driver behaved inappropriately when they arrived at her destination.

She said she was forced to head-butt him to avoid his attentions.

The woman regularly practises self-defence but said the incident happened so fast she wasn't able to act.

Now she's warning women in Toowoomba to not take taxis unaccompanied.

The women said she had contacted police but was yet to make a formal complaint.

Toowoomba Police confirmed that no complaint had been made.

A company spokesman confirmed yesterday that a driver had been dismissed and declined to comment further.
