Butcher busy as foodies gear up for meaty Christmas feast
IT'S difficult to walk around Tannum Meats and not have a hankering for a feast, especially when you have the retail manager James Osborn, known around Tannum Sands as "Ozzy", showing you their full range.
This is not helped if it's lunch time; you have a penchant for chicken kiev, and Ozzy brags that they have the best in the world - something this reporter can attest to having had them at family dinners.
Christmas is traditionally a busy time of year for butchers all around the world with families stocking up on ham, chicken and turkey.
It's no different in our region, although it's not only roasting meat flying off the shelves at the Tannum Sands butchery owned by Brendon Wilson and his wife Melanie.
Brendon said they have been selling a lot of barbecue meat, bulk ribs, fillets and bacon with people gearing up for a Boxing Day barbecue.
The shop has been flat out all week with 140 customers on a busy day not an odd occurrence.
If people are unsure what to get to feed the hordes of visitors, Brendon recommends people pick up their Christmas meat pack as it has a little bit of everything.
Also, if you haven't put in your Christmas order yet don't fret, Brendon said if people came into the shop they would make sure they walk away happy.
"We have more hams than we need," he said.
The butchery will have stock ready for New Year's Day celebrations and have a wide range of gourmet products to satisfy even the pickiest "foodie".
"We work as a team to come up with a creation," Ozzy said.
