Business owner shocked after vehicle vandalised by poo

A CAIRNS businessman is fuming after finding faeces smeared over one of his rental cars, the latest in a string of crimes targeting his Trinity Beach office.

Cruising Car Rental owner Michael Birt said the current crime rate was the worst he'd seen in 20 years operating in the region.

"No one is scared of doing anything wrong anymore because they know that nothing is going to happen to them if they get caught," he said.

"They seem to get a slap on the wrist."

On Tuesday he and his Trinity Beach office manager Beatrice Soper were shocked to find that someone had used faeces to draw all over one of his rental vehicles.

"It's a disgusting person who does that kind of thing," Ms Soper said.

The business has been temporarily moved to the end of Moore St while construction of the new retail complex is under way. Since then Mr Birt said his business had become a target.

Two cars were stolen overnight on January 4, which is a peak time for the business. One car was found with damage totalling about $4500.

"Every panel had dents, the front and driver's side windscreens were smashed," he said.

The second vehicle, worth about $10,000, is still missing.

Another vehicle was stolen in the lead up to Christmas and found dumped at Edmonton the next day.

"We've had two generators stolen as well."

Mr Birt said he was at his wit's end.

"It just makes me lose faith in the type of people that we've got in society," he said.

"This town is going to the pack."
