Owner of 15 years closes shop, launches on Facebook

IT'S not all bad news for Gladstone business Australian Country Living owner, Silvia Cameron, who said despite the Gladstone Square store closing down, it will remain as an online business through Facebook.

Ms Cameron, who has owned the business for 15 years, said the decision to close the store front was not an easy one and as a farewell to loyal customers, the store currently has its "Red Spot Sale" running, with 20% off selected items.

Ms Cameron said the reason behind the closure was due to the high cost of rent, and personal reasons.

"I'm actually hoping keeping it all online through Facebook will boost the business," she said.

"I have been told by many retailers that selling on Facebook, in some cases, is making more than selling in store.

"It is sad, and I will miss my customers the most, and talking to people; but I am looking forward to this new aspect too."

Ms Cameron said the shop saw more locals than it did tourists being a gift shop, with the store less stocking only two or three items of the same thing to ensure its diverse range.

Those interested in buying goods online, can head to the page, look through the photos and send a message with the details of their purchase.
