Bulls Masters up for Challenge
SEVERAL of Gladstone's best young cricketers will have the chance to play against Bulls Masters in next weekend's Gladstone 20/20 Cricket Challenge festivities.
The local BOC Harbour City Rising Stars team of Ryan and Josh Finlay, Zane Robertson, Joe Romagnolo, Ben Richardson, Ruby Strange, Josh Andrew will take on Bulls Masters and ex-Australian and state cricketers Ken Healy, Ryan Broad, Geoff Foley, Chris Swann, Chris Simpson and Australian Surviver star Lee Carseldine.
History will also be made with the first-ever cricket game to be played under the new lights at BITS Oval nest Saturday night when the Bulls Masters will take on an Invitational BOC Harbour City Rising Stars team in an exhibition Super 8 game.
Event organiser Nev Judd said the young cricketers will have a point to prove. "For the young locals involved, it will be a moment to remember as they try to even up the ledger in the Masters versus Harbour City meetings,” Judd said. "This is the fourth game to be played against the touring Bulls Masters and the first featuring a predominantly under 18 team.”
While the Super 8 format will give each team a 14-over innings, the previous format of 10/10 produced one of the most memorable moments in Gladstone Cricket History three years ago when the Harbour City All Stars beat the Bulls Master with a four off the last ball of the match.
The Saturday night game which is also marks the first day of the Sims Metal Industries of Gladstone 20/20 Cricket Challenge.
"These kids are the most talented we have in Gladstone Cricket and its a great to reward their achievements," Judd said. Sunday week will feature the Remax Energy 60 runs in 60 seconds Challenge when Carseldine will attempt to hit a world record 60 runs in one minute from 10 balls.
