Bruce Hwy and Brisbane airport a burden on industry

DELAYS at Brisbane's Airport combined with roadworks on the Bruce Hwy are a major burden on the resources industry, according to Member for Flynn Ken O'Dowd.

The Central Queensland MP told the ABC several areas in the electorate, including Gladstone, relied on fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) workers.

He said the delays in Brisbane were having a knock-on effect.

"Must be costing the industry a lot of money and in turn if it costs the industry a lot of money, it's costing the people of Gladstone and the people who work here in Gladstone, the fly-in and outs, a lot of money to spend flying around in circles," he said.

Mr O'Dowd said with regular delays on the Bruce Hwy, transient workers were left with few options.

The Brisbane Airport Corporation is constructing a second runway to ease congestion at the site but it will not be completed for another eight years.
