Browne earns MVP as Lightning thumps Thunderbirds

NETBALL: Sunshine Coast Lightning's depth was confirmed in Adelaide on Sunday afternoon when Kelsey Browne and Laura Scherian controlled the mid-court in absence of superstar Laura Langman against the Thunderbirds.

The Kiwi international was ruled out of the clash on Saturday afternoon when the club revealed she suffered an injury to her right foot.

But Lightning, who got off to the best start in its brief but electric history, took an early lead and never looked back against the Thunderbirds.

Lightning recorded its biggest winning margin (51-42) to remain undefeated after three rounds of Suncorp Super Netball.

Browne was named the game's most valuable player, claiming 16 centre-pass receives and having a hand in nine goals at wing attack.

She was assisted ably by one-time Firebirds off-cast Laura Scherian, who fed shooter Caitlin Bassett clean ball, after clean ball, helping the prolific goal-scorer claim 43 goals from 46 attempts.

Lightning captain Geva Mentor called for a four-quarter performance from her side, after sluggish starts in the opening rounds against Firebirds and Vixens and that's exactly what she got.

More to come.
