WATCH: Brothers to light up their field of dreams
RUGBY LEAGUE: It's been several years in the making and on Saturday evening Gladstone Brothers will shed light to a new beginning.
Gladstone Brothers Junior League Oval will light up for the first time for Saturday's 7pm brotherly showdown between Gladstone Brothers and their Rockhampton counterparts.
The game marks the start of the extended Rockhampton Senior Local Rugby League Incorporated competition on the weekend.
"It started off as a project about seven years ago where we started to get the infrastructure in place," club president David Ahern said.
"We've had one side of the field lit up for quite a little while now just for training purposes."
He said the opportunity to host some home games under lights was too good to pass.
"Adam Wright, Jason Burns and Matty McConnell basically grabbed the bull by the horns and we had some lights that we pre-purchased after the island shut down," Ahern said.
"Basically a couple of working bees got it happening and last weekend, for the first time ever, we had a fully-lit field."
It will be a historic day and evening at the fields, which will start with an Inter City Women's match between Calliope and Rocky Brothers at 1pm.
Gladstone Brothers take on Calliope Roosters followed by Gladstone Wallabys and Rockhampton Brothers in the extended reserves competition at 4pm and 5.30pm respectively.
Ahern said the lights will take effect in the second of those matches.
"The main game will be the battle of the leprechauns for St Patrick's Day under the good quality lights," he said.
"There will be no issue with the players seeing the ball and hopefully it will be a good spectacle for everyone who comes out."
