Brothers hold back and still flog Tannum Seagulls 40-0

WHILE the wet weather may have forced some restraint in the way Brothers played, it may have been to the relief of Tannum Seagulls, who were trounced 40-0 at Marley Brown Oval on Sunday.

Greasy conditions meant the game was going to be won and lost up front, with Brothers stealing metres through the ruck at will by the time the second half was under way.

With an 18-0 score line at half time, there was no easing up for the front-runners, who looked fitter, quicker and more assured in their handling than their Tannum counterparts.

Tannum was unlucky not to at least post points, with a few attacking raids snuffed out by their own poor options or solid defence from the Brothers outfit.

Brothers prop Adam Donaldson was pleased with the result, especially keeping the Seagulls to zip on a soggy field.

"Oh it was tight, yeah, to keep them to zero on a wet track it's pretty good. They've got a very good forward pack, but our forwards got over the top of them," he said.

"Our game plan's structured around the tight centre of the field and our forwards can lay the foundation, you know, and the gaps seem to open up once they (opposition pack) start to tire."

The crowd was kept entertained despite the rain-marred spectacle, with greasy conditions providing plenty of wardrobe malfunctions and comic relief for those who braved the conditions.

Despite the conditions, flashes of brilliance were on show, with Donaldson himself displaying nice footwork to get himself over for a try.

In brief:

  • Brothers led 18-0 at half time, with tries to Lachlan Tanzer, Dan Wallace and Jamie Frizzo
  • Piled on 22 points in the second half, cut short by an injury to Brothers player
  • Brothers run out 40-0 victors
