Brisbane Lions kicking goals off the field too
BRISBANE'S on-field prospects for 2015 have surged with the arrival of former Collingwood best-and-fairest Dayne Beams, Geelong premiership player Allen Christensen and Carlton hard nut Mitch Robinson.
But it's off the field where the club is set to make the biggest revival.
The club has debt totalling more than $10 million, has made the finals just once in the past decade and crowd numbers have dwindled in the tough Brisbane market.
New chief executive Greg Swann (pictured) has already made significant improvements since arriving in July, signing some younger players to long-term deals and securing several new sponsors including global airline Garuda Indonesia.
"One of the things we wanted to do was become relevant again. We just thought we'd slipped off the radar a little bit," Swann told reporters yesterday.
"It's a whole of club approach, it's sponsors, it's players, it's members, all those things that make a successful footy club."
