Boys' Brigade youth snag new skills while helping fundraise

A PROJECT to build a barbecue trailer has given new skills to a group of young men and made fundraising easier.

The 1st Gladstone Boys' Brigade has been operating for 13 years as part of the Gladstone Baptist Church in Sun Valley and aims to give young men leadership and personal development training.

The group has about 45 boys who attend on Thursday nights, as well as 12 leaders, an administration person and a chaplain to look after them.

Boys' Brigade leader Craig Holley said to make their activities affordable they did quite a lot of fundraising, much of which was raised through sausage sizzles.

"For a number of years we had thought that it would be great to have a barbecue trailer," he said. "Purcell's have supplied much of the materials, a large amount of labour and even organised painting and signage."
