Breathtaking Spyders have good looks and speed to match

TODAY'S blog post is on two brand-new 2012 Audi R8 V10 Spyders (because two is always better than one), one coated in a ibis white with a black premium leather interior and the other in a beautiful pearl effect daytona grey with a red premium leather interior.

Both of these Audis have the exact same features besides the colours and the wheels, with the white model having 19-inch, 10-spoke Y design alloy wheels and the grey model having 19-inch, five twin-spoke forged alloy wheels.

These R8 Spyders are both also equipped with the same 5.2-litre, 40-valve 10-cylinder engine sourced from a Lamborghini Gallardo, which can produce up to 386 kilowatts (525 horsepower) at 8000rpm and 530 Newton metres of torque (391 pound-feet of torque) at 6500 rpm.

Connected to this engine is a seven-speed R-Tronic automated-manual transmission, with manual shifting paddles behind the steering wheel, which then sends all the power to all-four wheels using Audi's Quattro all-wheel drive system. Also, this particular model has a curb weight of 1805 kilograms.

This allows the R8 V10 Spyder to launch from 0-100kmh in 3.7 seconds, and it will keep accelerating until it reaches its top speed of 314kmh (195 miles per hour).

Even though Audi claims the 0-100kmh acceleration time to be 3.7 seconds, some magazines have tested the V10 Spyder doing it in 3.4 seconds.

The Audi R8 was first introduced in 2006 with a 4.2-litre V8, which could produce 309 kilowatts (420 horsepower) and 430 Newton metres of torque (317 pound-feet of torque).

This means the V10 engine gains 77 kilowatts and 100 Newton metres of torque over the V8 engine. At the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, Audi introduced the R8 Spyder with the 5.2-litre V10 that is in these models I'm featuring today.

Some other features that these Audis are equipped with include variable intermittent rain sensing wipers, power convertible roofs, rear spoilers, double-wishbone front and rear suspension, front and rear stabilizer bars, performance tires, four-wheel ABS as well as traction and stability control, self-levelling, dusk-sensing and auto-delay off Xenon headlights and daytime running LED's, an engine immobilizer, front and rear ventilated carbon ceramic disc brakes, seat belt pretensioners, electronic brake force distribution, a driver and passenger whiplash protection system, tyre pressure monitoring, post-collision safety systems, front and rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera, an interior active charcoal air-filter, 12 total speakers with one subwoofer, a navigation system and much more.

You can currently buy a 2012 Audi R8 V10 Spyder for about $370,000.
