UPDATE: 'Blood down her chest': Garbage truck in head-on
A WITNESS to a head-on crash between a garbage truck and a four-wheel drive on the Bruce Hwy has recalled the moment of the collision, which has left a woman with cuts to her head.
Paramedics are racing the woman, a passenger in the four-wheel drive towing a caravan, to Gladstone Base Hospital.
A garbage truck, owned by the council's contractor, JJ Richards & Sons, then slammed on its brakes and veered across the road, on to the grass, to dodge the B-double and the four-wheel drive.
But it collided with the four-wheel drive.
A woman emerged from the passenger side of the vehicle "with blood coming down her chest" while the driver, a man, was "cool and calm", according to Ms Wesdijk.
Ms Wesdijk called 000 and two workers from the Department of Main Roads, who were cleaning the toilets at the time, directed traffic around the crash.
