UPDATE: Stanthorpe residents woke up to find their town covered in snow this morning.

For many young children it was their first time to see snow.

Locals and tourists are getting up early to enjoy conditions.

Police are warning residents to take care on the roads and the New England Highway is closed in both directions between Glenn Innes and Armidale due to ice and snow on the highway.

There are also some roads closed around Stanthorpe.
